Just Another Day at Work...

This event was quite a few years ago, when I was a Director of Nursing in a skilled nursing facility. I had an open door policy, which meant staff and patients could come in any time and talk or vent, whichever they needed to do.

One patient was a man I shall call Bill. He had advanced Dementia, and could not walk. However, he wheeled himself around the facility quite well, and could talk very well. He reminded me of an owl: He had huge eyes, which I found so cute! lol His hair was pure white, and he was a short man, even evident when he was seated in his wheelchair.

Every day he would wheel himself in my office and chat with me, calling me "Pat." (Not my name of course) Now, why do these patients always think I am someone else? lol! Anyway, he would say stuff like, "remember Pat when we... or, Pat, are we going to..." I would get a kick out of listening to him talk. He was so funny! And I DO love to laugh! He fast grew to become my favorite patient!

One night I got a call at home from a frantic nurse telling me Bill was missing. I thought, 'WTH? How did he go missing, in a locked down facility??' So I drove down there, and immediately called the administrator, and extra staff in to look for Bill. The facility was a privately owned facility, and the administrator and I hated to call the owners unless we absolutely HAD to, so after several hours of looking EVERYWHERE, we finally broke down and called them.

The owner was this short man who had a fierce temper. I guess he felt he needed to make up for his height by being a hot head, who knows? But he really had a temper. He lived about 4 hours away from the facility, so he flew down in his private helicopter, and of course he started ranting and raving. By then, the newspapers and television stations had gotten ahold of the story, and they were out there with their cameras, helicopters, and live TV.

We all looked outside on the grounds, and one theory was Bill was kidnapped because someone saw what looked like wheelchair tracks leading away from the facility. Another theory was someone had murdered the poor old man. I mean, it was exciting news, folks! The owner was NOT pleased because we were getting negative publicity, so all of the department heads were sitting in the administrator office discussing our next plan of action. The owner decided he would walk down and check the other department head offices one last time...

Suddenly, we all heard the owner yell, "COME HERE GUYS NOW!" I thought, OMG he found Bill's dead body! So, we all run down to where the owner was, in the activity director's office. What did we find? There was Bill, sitting in the middle of the room in his wheelchair, butt naked, with his hair sticking out in spikes, his face covered in peanut butter cracker pieces, and him holding those crackers, looking at us with those big owl eyes, and he said, "Want some crackers?"

How Bill got in that office with it being kept locked, we never knew. How he got past us looking for him, we never knew. How he kept quiet when we were looking for him, we never knew. The one thing we did know was the facility got a bad reputation for losing patients within the facility!!

This vent for the day is about some people's profile rating systems. Now, everyone has the right to rate profiles as they please, no argument there! However, just as they have that right, so do people have the right to create their profile as they like (staying within VR's policies of course).

I chose this topic for my vent for the day because it truly is funny if you think about it, and it shows how stupid some people can be. Yesterday, I noticed my score went down and I was like, "hmmm, wonder why?" So, I check the lastest raters, and noticed someone scored it a level 6. This person is a high level sire (sorry, I did not count how high because I really don't give a shit), a dominar in fact. And, the person scored it invisible so she would not be seen. Thank you dear, but I can still see you! :D

Anyway, I went to check out her profile expecting to see this elaborate decked out magnificent piece of art, and what did I find? A picture for a background, and tiny, tiny writing that made up the page. That is it. Wow. Now, my profile is not the best by far! But I did put some effort into it! It did take some time finding pictures to depict what I wanted to convey, the music to match, and the background art.

Now before I go on, anyone who tells you, "rate me anyhow you want, it is just a number I don't care" and has a decent profile, which obviously took some time to build is lying. No one is going to put time and effort into a profile and not care at least a LITTLE BIT of how they get rated. If they truly did not, then they would have a blank profile with the words, "Hi, my name is Betty Boop, and if you want to know more about me, just ask!"

So, back to the vent at hand. I read what she wrote, (and it took some eye strain, believe me) until I get to her rating system. She rates low if the profile does not tell about the person. WTF? LOL!!!!!! I had to laugh! Here is a person who expects to go to a profile and READ about the person building it.

"Hi, my name is so and so, I like to read, I like music, I like to take walks in the rain, and lay on the beach!" So no dear, I am not going to change my profile, to fit your rating system. I like it just the way it is, thank you very much!

The funny thing is, every profile here tells about the person, whether or not it is in writing. You have to think outside the box. Some people are creative, some are happy, some are moody, some are sad, some are kind, some are into gaming, astrology, and the list goes on. This person just does not have a clue.

Ok, I have had my vent for the day.

I commented but you must have edited the journal.

What I said was that it may be out of jealously lol, some dumb-asses who rate good profiles low and a shit profile, so its basically a spite rate. Of course there are those who take issue with people instead of being non-biased judge. I rate profiles, not people. You don't need to justify your profile to anyone.

I myself go by value over personal tastes, I rate according to effort put into profile regardless if I personally like it or not.

I was editing Mort, so that very well must have been what happened lol. I agree - the profile is being rated, not the person. Thanks for your input! :D

Don't take it personally. She rates everyone low. Well, almost everyone, but I won't get into that here.

Some people just power trip. It's so funny. Annoying, but funny. Don't let it bother you too much. Just imagine how sad and pathetic their lives must be for them to get a kick out of giving someone a low profile rating. I mean, it's kinda sad. I pity the people who act like that on here. I really do. Happy, well-adjusted folks like you and me don't need silly kid drama to make us feel fulfilled. So, smile and go on about your day, darling. You'll always be a 10 in my book. ;)

Just Another Fun Day at Work...

I thought I would start writing down stories from my days at work as I thought of them here in my journal as I have SO MANY of them lol. I work in a psychiatric mental hospital, and over the years have accrued many funny stories. So, here is the first of many to come.

I don't know if any of you have ever watched the soap opera, "The Young and The Restless," but at the heart of the show is the Newman clan, with Victor at the head, and his on again off again wife, Nikki. Well, Nikki has blonde hair, and I have blonde hair. Now, I do not look anything like Nikki, but one of my patients who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder with psychotic features and delusions thought I was Nikki and married to Victor.

This patient was very tall for a woman, and weighed about 350 pounds. She towered over me! Every morning she would come and get her medicine and say to me, "Good morning Nikki! How is Victor today?" And every morning, I would say, "I am not Nikki, you know this" She would say no, I am, blah blah blah. We were taught not to feed into delusions, so me, trying to be the good nurse, would attempt to set her straight. Wrong thing to do.

One morning, she was not in the mood to put up with my not being agreeable to her. I was Nikki, and that was it! We had several security guards on the hall to keep the patients in line, because many were physically aggressive. Well, this patient was agitated, and she was known to fight, especially staff. However, she had never been aggressive to me- I was Nikki after all!

Same routine, she came to get her medication, and she said, "Good morning Nikki, how is Victor this morning?" Security guards were standing RIGHT THERE! I went into my little speech, and she turned to me and fucking kicked me in the damn knee so hard, it immediately swelled up to the point I could not bend it! Security JUST STOOD THERE!!! Staff grabbed her (FOUR OF THEM) and by this time security finally woke up and helped. I turned to them, and said "What the hell guys? What are you doing, sleeping on the fucking job??"

Anyway, the next day and every day after that, the patient would come and get her medication and say to me, "Good morning Nikki, how is Victor today?" I would reply, "I am just fine, and Victor says hello!"

I am having a couple of back teeth pulled tomorrow, so I went to the store to get some "soft" foods like ice cream, yogurt, soup, you know the stuff. This weekend, some idiot merchant charged my debit card with a purchase I did not authorize, so I had to tear up that card, and now waiting on my new one. In the meantime, I have to write checks for everything, because I live in a "sneeze and your through it" small town, and my bank is 50 miles away, so no way to get cash. PAIN IN THE ASS.

Anyway, I get up to the cash register to pay for the stuff, so I write a check. I have been writing checks at this fucking store all week, no problem. Today though, it says declined. WTF?? Not only do I have money in the bank, but today is pay day. Now, this really pisses me off!!

I get home and call the number ready to cuss the idiot out, but of course, it is automated. The reason for the decline? "There has been too many checks written on this account." SMH"!!!!!!

I really, really wish I could talk to a "live" person so I could let him or her know how I truly felt about their "too many writing checks" policy!

Ok, I have had my vent for the day.

It's likely just because it's out of the norm for you. You need to get ahold of a live person at your bank and let them know what's going on so they can take tge hokd off your account. It's a safety thing. My card gets shut off after 3 out of state purchases are made. Same for checks I write. I just have to call and let them know, they verify the last 3 purchases and I'm able to go on using my card/checks.

There are Positives!

Just as I have rants and need to vent, I do have positive things that happen. I really do!

This afternoon, one of my patients, who has been dealing with several long-term issues, came up to me and told me she appreciated the help I have given her over the many months of therapy and skills training, and for not giving up on her. She is being discharged before the end of the year, and she wanted me to know that I was a large part of the reason she was being discharged.

This is what makes it ALL worthwhile!!

That's wonderful! My favorite is when patients bring flowers or send cards. I'm not in the medical field anymore but I have a small wall where I tacked up all the cards and pictures of flowers I'd gotten from people I'd helped. If I'm feeling down I go look at it so I can remember that others appreciate me more than I give myself credit for. :)

Vent for the Day

I had several Dr.'s appointments this morning. It always amazes me how the appointment has a specific TIME scheduled, and it is NEVER met. This not only applies to physicians: it applies to lawyers, dentists, optometrists, podiatrists, psychiatrists, you name it. I absolutely fucking DESPISE being kept waiting for an appointment!

Well, here I am sitting in the first appointment having FINALLY been taken back to meet with the first physician. I was like an hour past due to be seen, and only had 35 minutes to get to my next appointment, and was feeling my blood pressure start to rise. So, I called my next doctor's office to let them know I might be a little late. The fucking bitch put me on hold. Another thing I DESPISE is being put on hold!

I waited probably five minutes, which is very good for me, and then I hung up because my doctor walked in. We talked a few minutes, then she left to get my prescriptions. I tried to call my second doctor office back to reschedule my appointment because by this time, it was too late to make the appointment. I gave her my information, and told her why I needed to reschedule, and before I could get my next appointment date, the damn bitch put me on hold AGAIN! I was thinking to myself, "You damn fucking, idiotic, stupid, pea brained, miserable, maggot eating, BITCH!!!!!!!!!"

My doctor walked back in to see me hang up my cell phone. I was mumbling something under my breath - hopefully not what I was thinking! I put my phone up, and turned to look back to look at her, only to see a worried look on her face, and she said, "Do I have to worry that I am going to read in tomorrow's paper that you went on a killing rampage on your way home from here today? I have never seen you like this!" *sighs* Now I have to perform some damage control during my next Dr. office visit.

Ok, I have had my vent for the day.

Vent for the Day

15:17 Nov 08 2016

I have a cold. This totally sucks, because when I am sick, I do not go out coughing and spreading MY germs to others. BUT, people can be so fucking inconsiderate to come to work, coughing and hacking, touching every damn thing and not washing their hands, and getting everyone else sick!

I have REPEATEDLY asked the employees to PLEASE not come to work if they are sick! Yes, they look at me as if I have lost my mind, but I don't give a damn! Stay HOME and not spread it around. It causes loss of productivity when everyone comes in sick! No one feels well, they are dragging ass, some call in, and this makes it tough on those who do feel well.

If I had my way, I would come in to work, dressed to the gills with guns, knives, bow and arrows, bombs, anything I could carry, and blast everyone and anyone that got the fuck in my way! There would be a path of dead bodies when I got through!

Ok, I have had my vent for the day.
